PHHS XC Big Bear 2025 Packing List – Departure Details

Dates: Monday, 7/7 – Thursday, 7/10/2025 – 4 days, 3 nights

Meet at PHHS on Monday at 9:30 a.m. and be ready for a 10:00 a.m. departure.
(We cannot check-in until 3:00 p.m., so it doesn’t make sense to leave earlier).

Weather: 
High temperature forecast to be 84 while the low temperature is expected to be 49.
In other words, it will get hot during the day and it will be cool at night!

We are staying at the Big Bear Hostel:

The girls and boys will have separate cabins

Coaches and chaperones have seats to transport all participants, but we need to transport our food, and gear space is tight.

The hostel provides bedding; no sleeping bags needed. 

A sweatshirt or clean clothes make a great pillow. 

Pack gear in a backpack or small duffel; no oversized or hard-sided luggage. 


Clothing:

Running clothes for 4 days – can re-wear

Running shoes

Light rain jacket and long-sleeve poly – layers for warmth if needed

Sweatshirt

5+ pair socks – keep your feet dry! Extra pair only for use at hostel/nights

Running watch

Water bottle 

Sunglasses & Sunscreen

Chapstick

Snacks

Miscellaneous Gear:

Mess kit for meals – plate or bowl/cup/utensils (reduce use of paper/plastic) BE SURE TO LABEL WITH YOUR NAME!


3 days regular clothes t shirt, short, sweatpants, undergarments

Swimsuit

Personal toiletries including soap/shampoo; personal medication

Shower shoes/sandals

One towel – microfiber dries quickly

Plastic bags for muddy shoes, dirty clothes

Other:

Spending $ for activities

Cards, games, book

phone & charger/cord

We are responsible for cleaning both houses and the grounds before we leave; take off shoes inside to minimize mud & dirt tracking. 

Note:

The team will cover one team activity, typically the water slide. There are other activities available such as bowling and paddleboarding

Let’s try to limit screen time as much as possible!

Runs:

Monday p.m.: we will run the bike path (flat)

Tuesday:

a.m – 7:00 a.m.: Hanna Flats (this is a climb!)

p.m. – 4:00 p.m.: typically a run around the neighborhood

Wednesday:

a.m. – 7:00 a.m.: PCT or Cougar Crest

p.m.-  4:00 p.m.: run around Lake/Park area

Thursday:

a.m. – 6:30 a.m. – Cougar Crest or PCT
